Meijer’s potato variety makes its mark in Egypt

MEIJER Potato’s ‘Sound’ variety is making its mark in Egypt.

The Meijer team recently met with its partner Domiatec Agri-Group and visited several Sound fields. Although it was unusually warm for the time of year, the robust variety was found to be performing well.

“Thanks to its climate adaptability and strong stress resistance, Sound grows successfully in both the desert and the Nile Delta. Growers are very pleased with its quality and high yields,” a company announcement stated.

A stable market is envisaged for the country’s potato sector this year.

Export destinations, including Russia, the Arab countries, and the European Union are expected to play an important role in 2026, with steady pricing levels envisaged.

Some shifts are expected between winter and summer crop volumes, but overall production levels are not expected to exceed those of 2025, according to exporters’ market outlooks.
