GREECE and Balkan markets are moving away from Egyptian potatoes and favouring French imports, according to the owner of a Greek customs brokerage firm.
In a recent interview, Charalampos Bartzokas, owner of Bartzokas Co Hellenic Customs Brokers, said around 2.500 tons of Egyptian potatoes had been imported through each of the Piraeus and Thessaloniki ports but he didn’t think this year’s Egyptian imports would reach previous levels. Instead, he was seeing “increased preference” for French potatoes.
