Floods devastate Morocco potato crops

Severe flooding last month followed seven-year drought.

FLOODING in northern Morocco has devastated potatoes crops.

As of mid-February 2026, severe, unexpected flooding following a seven-year drought heavily impacted agricultural land in northern Morocco, causing significant damage to potato crops, as well as other vegetables.

Heavy rainfall turned potato fields in areas like Larache, Kenitra, Sidi Kacem, and Sidi Slimane into “soup,” resulting in total losses for some growers, particularly in low-lying areas.
