THE annual Grow Your Own Potatoes Challenge recently took place throughout Perth and Kinross schools and Nurseries, co-ordinated by Lorraine Henderson.
The project, which has been running for around a decade, was sponsored by ISJ, Horticultural Seed Potato Company Almondbank Perth. Other potato companies supporting the project with diverse varieties included Albert Bartlett, Andrew Skea of Potato House and Branston Potatoes Abernethy.
Growing Packs were distributed by local RHET volunteers to around 100 classes throughout the area with each participant having the opportunity to write stories, create healthy recipes, have fun with STEM based puzzles and learn where potatoes comes from.
This year’s winner for the heaviest crop was again Craigclowan Primary One. Runners-up were Luncarty and Abernyte.
