WASH LINE INNOVATION AT PATATAS MELENDEZ

PATATAS Melendez, Spain’s largest fresh potato processor, has completed a transformative upgrade at its flagship facility in Medina del Campo—now considered one of the most advanced potato processing plants in Europe.

A key part of the development was the integration of a high-efficiency wash line and selected packing line components, supplied by Wyma and seamlessly integrated with other systems on site. The full-service approach included consultation, design, manufacture, installation, and ongoing support—tailored to meet Patatas Melendez’s targets for automation, gentle handling, product traceability, and sustainability.

The results have been impressive:

  • Packaging capacity increased from 65 to 130 pallets per hour
  • 17% reduction in energy consumption
  • 30% reduction in water usage through advanced recycling
  • Dramatic reduction in manual handling and workplace accidents
  • Enhanced data visibility across the supply chain

This project reflects a growing trend in the sector toward digitalised, efficient post-harvest operations that prioritise sustainability without compromising quality. Future phases are already in development, with Patatas Melendez planning further line expansions to meet global demand.
