Green insecticide portfolio expansion

Glasgow company offers solutions for many potato pests.

SOLASTA® Bio, a biotech company specialising in green insecticides, has expanded its intellectual property portfolio alongside strong field trial results.

The company now holds 14 granted patents for its peptides, including eight in the United States and six in Europe. These newly-granted patents support the commercial rollout of its sustainable crop protection products.

Across almost all trials to date, SOLASTA® Bio’s peptide candidates have consistently shown high efficacy at or above 85%, with many treatments achieving efficacy levels above 85%. No phytotoxicity has been observed in any field trial, and no negative impact on beneficial insects has been recorded, according to CEO and Co-Founder Shireen Davies.

“These patent grants represent a paradigm shift in crop protection, demonstrating that nature-inspired peptides can be effectively protected for commercial deployment,” she said.

SOLASTA Bio’s technology is based on insect ‘neuropeptides’, which control essential physiological functions, disrupting these functions in target pests such as aphids.

Established in 2021, the Glasgow-based company has developed a platform that can be mobilised for any pest of interest within potato growing.
