
THE role potatoes can play in tuberculosis research and the impact of the French table potato market on the rest of Europe will be highlights of a forthcoming European potato trade conference.
The Europatat Congress will take place in Lille, France, in June, when the activities of the trade association’s five commissions will first be reviewed
The commissions are made up of Potatoes for consumption, seed potatoes, sustainability, technical and regulatory issues and RUCIP (Rules and Practices of the Inter-European Trade In Potatoes) and their activities will be reviewed on the first day of the three-day conference, on June 11th.
The following day, June 12th, will be dedicated to the Europatat General Assembly with speeches by Fedepom and Europatat’s Presidents, Dominique Pere and Tigran Richter, Patrick Baudry, renowned former French astronaut and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, who will deliver a keynote speech drawing parallels between leadership in space exploration and decision-making under uncertainty.
A panel discussion about the French table potato market and its impact on the rest of Europe will feature. Panellists include Florence Rossillion – Director General CNIPT; Francisco Moya – Director Vitalis Group; Florimond Deprez – Head of potato business unit Group Florimond Deprez; Alain Betancourt – Sales Director Patatas Meléndez; Philippe Quennemet – President GIPT.
After the panel, participants will hear from Daniel Deschodt, Executive Vice-President & CCO Port of Dunkerque, Platinum sponsor of the Congress. Right before the official closure of the day, Dr Alain Baulard, from the Institut Pasteur Lille, will give a presentation on the key role of potatoes for tuberculosis’ research.
