SPECIALITY POTATO IMPORTER/EXPORTER ENVISAGES SHORTAGES AT END OF SEASON

POTATO yields in France have been disappointing this year, according to one supplier.

Harvesting of potatoes in southern France has finished, while it is still ongoing in the country’s central and northern regions.

Bad weather has taken its impacts on his year’s yields and there could be a shortage of supply towards the end of the season, according to Paul-Woterden Ouden of Rola Fresh, a Dutch importer and exporter of French speciality potatoes.

In a recent interview with Fresh Plaza, he said: “Last year, prices were from 15 to 20 euros per box and those prices are now between 8 and 10 euros per box. In the coming weeks I see the price going down rather than up, but if towards the end of the year or early next year supplies in other areas dry up, I do foresee a price rise again.”
