Potato industry in USA using artificial intelligence to stop misinformation about the potato crop
POTATOES USA is using artificial intelligence to scan social media platforms for misinformation about the crop.
The national marketing and promotion board which represents growers and importers in the USA says thousands of posts are made each day about potatoes, and many include factually-wrong statements.
Group president Blair Richardson said: “We use the research that the Alliance for Potato Research and Education has been investing in for the past 15 years, and that body of evidence, plus all the other research that’s out there about potatoes that the industry didn’t fund, to come up with an answer or a response to those things whenever there’s something that’s incorrectly stated about potatoes.”
The initial investment is cost around half a million dollars and will cost about $100,000 a year to operate.
